Walking in Hope

This morning my mom and I participated in a 5K 'Team Hope Walk'. This walk benefits the Huntington's Disease Society of America. My mom and I walked in honor of our close family friend, Susan, who has HD. Huntington's Disease (HD) is a devastating, hereditary, degenerative brain disorder for which there is, at present, no effective treatment or cure. HD slowly diminishes the affected individual's ability to walk, think, talk and reason. Eventually, the person with HD becomes totally dependent upon others for his or her care. Huntington's Disease profoundly affects the lives of entire families -- emotionally, socially and economically.

And this morning it was pouring rain!! But as my mom and I visited with the others who were walking and heard the stories of those there, it didn't matter than it was pouring cats and dogs and we were soaked to ours bones. We were truly lucky to be there and be able to walk. I wish I could do more than donate some money and do a 5K. My prayers are with Susan and all others affected by this disease.
